As a parent, you might not be able to stay home with your children before they start kindergarten. This means that you’re probably going to need to find a daycare school for them to attend for at least a few hours during the day. Instead of choosing the first school that you visit, here are a few tips for finding one that offers what your child needs and one where you feel comfortable leaving your child.
Interaction
When you enter the daycare you’re considering, look at how the teachers and other workers play with the children and teach them. They should interact with children in a way that is educational and in a way that makes the children want to be around those adults instead of making them feel afraid or frightened. After you’ve made the decision about which daycare you want your children to attend, consider stopping by during the day to see how your children are interacting and being treated.
Careful Care
Most daycares provide services for babies to children who are getting ready to start kindergarten. Teachers should provide proper care for each age group instead of leaving children alone during the day. Talk to the workers to find out if they have state certifications to work with children and to find out if they have had the proper safety training to work in a daycare school, such as CPR and first-aid courses.
Policies
Most schools have certain policies that are in place for when parents drop off and pick up their children, such as presenting an identification. Ask about how teachers discipline the children and the various approaches to feeding, playing, and naptime. Find out what the school does if children get sick during the day and what the policies are for sending children back to the school after being sick at home.
